CNR

The National Research Council (CNR) carries out, promotes, disseminates, transfers and enhances research activities in the main fields of knowledge development and its applications for scientific, technological, economic and social development. The scientific network of the CNR is organized in 7 Departments and 100 Institutes, located in most of the Italian territory

ACTIVITIES

The activities of the Department of Earth System Sciences and Environmental Technologies are carried out by 1300 people structured in 12 Institutes, with a total of 55 locations throughout Italy, and in collaboration with Institutes belonging to other Departments, and with the support of about 800 other employees and staff in training.

STRATEGIC AREAS

INSTITUTES

The twelve institutes of the Department help to understand the functioning of the Earth system during its long history and the growing and pervasive impact of Man during the Anthropocene, the geological era in which the atmosphere, the lithosphere, the biosphere, the hydrosphere and the cryosphere are transformed primarily by human activity. It is necessary to know the planetary limits within which human society can operate and the mechanisms of irreversible change that can be triggered and the related strengthening mechanisms.
