Professor Marie Edmonds is a volcanologist and petrologist from the University of Cambridge, UK. She is interested in the behaviour of volatiles in magmas and in particular how volcanic gaseous emissions can be used for monitoring; and for understanding hydrothermal ore
deposits and the conditions of magma storage in the crust. She recently (2014-2019) co-led the Reservoirs and Fluxes community of the Deep Carbon Observatory (funded by the Alfred PSloan Foundation), tasked with quantifying the ?luxes of carbon into and out of the Earth’s
interior; and is involved in UK research council funded projects observing volcanism from space (COMET) and understanding the transport and chemical transformations in volcanic plumes (V-Plus). She received the AGU Joanne Simpson Medal in 2020, and the 2017 IAVCEI Wager Medal
