The research of this strategic area is developed around Earth Observation for the study of the atmosphere, biosphere and geosphere and the observation of the three-dimensional structure of the ocean and its interfaces. A multi-disciplinary, multi-platform, multi-sensor and multi-frequency approach is at the basis of the observations which, integrated with modelling on different spatial and temporal scales, make it possible to advance knowledge of the main geological, geophysical, environmental and ocean system phenomena and processes. The development and integration of in situ, remote sensing and satellite observation methods and technologies is accompanied by the management, organisation and analysis of large interoperable databases
